I was a senior when one of the college eating clubs invited a little-known band called Beirut to play at their annual post-finals lawn party. As I sat in the sun surrounded with friends, all of us a few weeks away from graduation, Beirut's sound sank deep into our bones. To me its stalwart snares and hopeful, bittersweet brass still herald a beautiful kind of promise tinged with nostalgia.
